Meet Annemarie. One of my most incredible girls I have pleasure to work with. We met about 3 years ago when Annemarie attended my fitness classes. It turned out quickly how much she is into fitness and loves to hear and learn everything about healthy lifestyle, proper training and how to be happy inside out. Don’t even remember how did we started doing personal training, but it was ages ago😉 When my big dream came true and I could open my own private personal training fitness studio Annemarie was one of the very supportive people. You could expect to see her almost everyday😁 But what was the most important, she really couldn’t live without them! There’s not many people I would wake up at for class at 6am just to do it for her, not for money issue at all! Let’s be honest I love my job, but from the very beginning we decided that Fitness Point is all about people who really care and are interested to change their life for better but need a help to do it.
When Annemarie found out she is pregnant no one knew for long time. But it was obvious if she wants to continue to train she need to ask my permission/advise. She was scared like never that I will reject her and not allow to train for whole pregnancy. Imagine now that best thing you enjoy in your life (no matter what it is) someone takes away from you for next 9 months. Of course she stayed. Thanks to proper experience and knowledge I was able to be a companion for her in that amazing journey.
Annemarie was attending 4-5 (sometimes 6) classes a week (same amount like before pregnancy). Every single step was designed for her body/ fitness level/ stage of pregnancy. Exercises were changed or reduced according baby growing inside as well as her energy level and frame of mind. With time we had reduced weights used for classes, she still kept heavy in terms of other participants but most of the weights didn’t reduced at all! What we changed mostly was only angles of exercises (e.g. instead of bench press on step we used incline press on the bench; more comfortable and safer position, instead of full push ups, option with hands on step and later on, on the knees- to take pressure of the boom, no wider legs positions than 90 degree(lunges, step on the box, Pilates exercises), no lifting arms above the head from 7 months onwards ). Every single exercise was changed whenever and for whatever reason she didn’t feel right like doing it. And that was and always is my rule number one while working with pregnant lady. Annemarie is remarkable we have to say, not many even fitness freaks would do something like that 👊👏Since she is training with me, after few changes and adjustments we were able to set up best diet plan for her needs (before pregnancy) so we just modified it adding extra 300kcal (YES! That’s all you should eat more while being pregnant, it’s different when you’re breast-feeding), changing macronutrients individually considering all body changes and baby requirements.
Annemarie kept exercises until day AFTER she was due (didn’t deliver the baby as planed on Sunday, so still came on Monday class). Baby was delivered on Tuesday, whole labour was active (doing squat position or heel lifts was the most comfortable position ever!) and whole action took only 6 MINUTES(naturally between 45minutes -1 hour). Even nurse wasn’t ready for a baby yet! What’s more baby started to lift head up straight after delivery (what’s very unusual). Next day at the hospital everyone seamed to be concerned about Annemaries HR as it was only 49. Finally her consultant was able to calm down everyone saying how much active Annemarie was during last 9 months.
Unfortunately what’s sad about that story is, most of the society was eaither rude, offensive, sceptic or ignorant about her commitment to stay fit and be healthy. Isn’t it right- “Happy mum, happy baby”? She did the best possible thing for her baby- stayed healthy, active and happy so that’s how she nearly “programed” her baby girl to be since very first minute on this world. Isn’t that the best gift every parent could give to it’s own baby?! That’s why I am so thankful for Brendan being so supportive and caring for the last 9 month! There’s no better husband and father than this one that allows his wife to be a happy woman ☺
During pregnancy Annemarie gained 13kg, 4,4% Body Fat, so most of the weight was baby and water weight. Just to add, baby was developing perfectly, even 2 weeks ahead on 32week scan ;) Born 7 lb 13 oz, 2 days after due day.
Thanks to regular training and proper diet she didn’t feel any lower back pain, didn’t have problem with ankles swelling, muscles cramps, bad sleep or low energy levels. Child birth wasn’t scary or physically tough experience.
She was back to first class after 14 days, but being back to routine after 3 weeks now. Annemarie is not first mum in our studio, we are very open for mums bringing kids with them for classes as well as personal trainings so Ellie soon appeared with Annemarie on few classes already 💪
